Abstract

Subjective well-being is an important aspect in the lives of adolescents that reflects the evaluation of life satisfaction and the balance between positive and negative emotions. However, with the increasing development of the internet today. Subjective well-being in adolescents tends to decline due to the increasing use of the internet in adolescents to access social media. One of the related phenomena is Fear of missing out (FoMO), which is fear, excessive anxiety about losing information or experiences experienced by others, especially on social media. The study aims to determine the relationship between Fear of missing out and Subjective well-being in adolescents. The participants of this study consisted of 155 students of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Taman, Sidoarjo, aged 16-18 years, who were selected using purposive sampling techniques, using quantitative methods with correlational designs. Data were collected from google links to students using the fear of missing out scale and subjective well-being scale, which have been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis using Product Moment analysis with the help of SPSS 25 for windows, the results of the analysis showed a correlation coefficient of rxy = - 0.174 with P = 0.030 (P <0.05). This proves that there is a significant negative relationship between fear of missing out and subjective well-being, or there is a relationship in the opposite direction which means the higher the fear of missing out, the lower the subjective well-being in adolescents, and the hypothesis proposed in this study is accepted.
