Abstract

In an online game based on MOBA, such as MLBB, communication between players is very important. To achieve victory, teamwork is required. However, trash talking is a negative verbal communication action by an online game player. The main purpose of players engaging in this action is to intentionally cause discomfort and pressure on other players. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach and shows that trash talking has diverse meanings, depending on the context and individual interpretation. Trash talking can cause conflicts, damage interpersonal relationships, and disrupt team dynamics. Through the symbolic interaction theory framework, this research provides an in-depth understanding of how trash talking is perceived by players. These findings highlight the importance of social awareness in communication during gameplay in order to maintain a balance between competition and social harmony within the gaming community.
