Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of investment knowledge, minimum capital, and social environment on the investment interest of students. Using a quantitative method with purposive sampling, data were collected through questionnaires distributed to students of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the 17 August 1945 University in Surabaya. Data analysis shows that investment knowledge has a positive and significant value on investment interest, evidenced by a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-value greater than the t-table (3.903 > 1.987), leading to the conclusion that investment knowledge significantly influences investment interest, thus H1 is accepted. Students with a better understanding of investments show a higher interest in investing. Minimum capital significantly influences investment interest, as indicated by a significance value of 0.027 < 0.05 and a t-value greater than the t-table (2.247 > 1.985), concluding that the minimum capital variable significantly affects investment interest, hence H2 is accepted. Minimum capital also plays an important role, where accessibility to low-capital investment products increases student participation in investing. The social environment significantly influences investment interest, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-value greater than the t-table (4.285 > 1.987), leading to the conclusion that the social environment variable significantly affects investment interest, thus H3 is accepted. Support from the social environment, including interactions with peers who have already invested, influences students' interest in engaging in investment activities. In the F-test, the F-table value is 64.363 with a significance value of 0.000. Since the significance value is 0.000 < 0.05, it can be concluded that the variables of investment knowledge (X1), minimum capital (X2), and social environment (X3) collectively have a significant influence on the variable of investment interest (Y), thus H4 is accepted. These findings suggest the need for enhanced financial education programs and the development of beginner-friendly investment products to encourage investment interest among students.
