Abstract
The existence of this study is aimed at analyzing factually and concretely the legal protection of freedom of opinion of the press against criminalization in the ITE Law reviewed constitutionally and Law No. 1/2024 as well as other laws and regulations. Through this research, it will be thoroughly discussed about the legal consequences of criminalization of the press and why regulations related to the protection of the criminalized freedom of opinion of the press are needed. In this study, normative legal research methods will be carried out accompanied by approaches to regulations and conceptual approaches which of course are based on primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials that still have relevance to the topic of discussion with legal reasoning techniques. In fact, journalistic activities with press freedom do have the power to have an impact on what has been informed which can affect the attitude and behavior of a person or group in the sense of society so that they have views in accordance with the information obtained. However, in this case, it is necessary to further assess what is in interest so that it is a necessity to criminalize the press by considering all the legal consequences that occur and the need for a legal protection mechanism for the press from the criminalization effort so that there is no inequality in law enforcement.
