Abstract

The foundation of a building really depends on the type of soil because it has a function as the main support, but the type of soil in one area and another is not always the same, there is soil that is strong and stable or has a high soil bearing capacity, and there is also soil that requires certain handling. to make the soil stable. To obtain a high soil bearing capacity, chemical stabilization and mechanical strengthening can be achieved. To increase the bearing capacity of the soil, chemical stabilization can be done. Improvements made in this research were mixing stabilization with 8% cement + 4% coconut fiber ash, 8% cement + 8% coconut fiber ash, 8% cement + 12% coconut fiber ash, 8% cement + 16% coconut fiber ash with curing time 3 days. The research was carried out in the Soil Mechanics laboratory at 17 August University, Surabaya, including volumetry, gravimetry, Atterberg limits, and Standard Proctor Test. The results of the research show that the addition of cement and coconut fiber ash with a curing time of 3 days can reduce the swelling and shrinkage properties and increase the bearing capacity of the soil based on the liquid limit value, plasticity index and optimum density value. The plasticity index value of the soil decreased along with the addition of cement and fiber ash. coconut, After carrying out a proctor test for each percentage of the mixture of cement and coconut fiber ash, the highest dry volume weight value was obtained for the 8% cement + 8% coconut fiber ash mixture, namely 1.56 gr/cm³.
