Abstract

This research, entitled "Misuse of Public Figure Voices with Deepfake Technology Applications," aims to identify, understand, and elaborate on whether the misuse of public figure voices with deepfake technology can be classified as a criminal offense, as well as to explore how the legal responsibility for the use of public figure voices with deepfake technology is defined. Deepfake technology allows highly realistic manipulation of audio and visual content, which can be exploited to harm the reputation or cause damage to others, especially public figures. This study employs a normative legal research approach by analyzing relevant laws and regulations related to criminal offenses involving the misuse of deepfake technology. The key finding of this research is that the misuse of public figure voices with deepfake technology can be classified as a criminal offense if it is proven that the act was intended to harm or defame the public figure. Legal accountability for such misuse can be addressed through existing regulations, particularly those related to criminal law, privacy violations, and defamation. This study highlights the need for stricter legal regulations to prevent the misuse of deepfake technology and to ensure the protection of individuals' rights, especially public figures.
