Abstract

Pertumbuhan pembangunan konstruksi logam pada masa sekarang ini banyak melibatkan unsur pengelasan. Las tipe GMAW atau yang biasa disebut MIG (Metal Inert Gas) adalah cara pengelasan dimana gas dihembuskan kedaerah las untuk melindungi busur dan logam yang mencair terhadap atmosfir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kekuatan tarik dan tegangan bending pada pengelasan ST 37 dengan metode pengelasan MIG dengan variasi diameter elektroda adalah 0,8 mm, 1 mm, dan 1,2 mm, serta Variasi besar arus adalah 70 A, 80 A, dan 90 A. Penelitian ini diawali dengan menyiapkan baja st 37. Selanjutnya material dilakukan proses pengelasan MIG menggunakan variasi diameter elektroda dan arus. Untuk pengujian pertama dilakukan pengujian tarik, lalu dilakukan pembentukan spesimen yang mengacu pada astm-e8 dan dilakutkan pengujian kedua yaitu pengujian bending. Dari hasil pengujian tarik pada elektroda 1,2 mm dengan arus 90 A memiliki tegangan tertinggi yaitu 43,66 kg/mm2, sedangkan pada elektroda 0,8 mm dengan arus 70 A memiliki tegangan terendah yaitu 30,06 kg/mm2. Pemakaian variasi diameter elektroda dan besar arus pada pengelasan MIG dapat mempengaruhi kekuatan tarik pada material baja ST 37. Apabila arus yang digunakan rendah pada setiap diameter elektroda maka kekuatan tariknya rendah, sebaliknya jika arus yang digunakan tinggi pada setiap diameter elektroda maka nilai kekuatan tariknya tinggi. Dari hasil uji bending pada elektroda 1,2 mm dengan arus 90 A memiliki hasil tertimggi sebesar 855,29 Mpa, sedangkan elektroda 0,8 mm dengan arus 70 A memiliki hasil terendah sebesar 745,55 Mpa. Pemakaian variasi diameter elektroda dan besar arus pada pengelasan MIG dapat mempengaruhi kekuatan tekuk pada material baja ST 37. Apabila arus yang digunakan rendah pada setiap diameter elektroda maka kekuatan tekuknya rendah, sebaliknya jika arus yang digunakan tinggi pada setiap diameter elektroda maka nilai kekuatan tekuknya tinggi.
