Abstract
Perkembangan teknologi terus berlanjut di sektor industri saat ini. Banyak perusahaan berupaya meningkatkan kualitas produk dengan menggunakan bahan yang hemat biaya, ringan, kuat, mudah diakses, dan memiliki tingkat kekuatan tinggi salah satu bahan yang sesuai dengan kriteria ini adalah material komposit. Alasan utama pemilihan pasir vulkanik sebagai penguat dalam komposit terletak pada sifat mekaniknya yang menguntungkan dan biayanya yang relatif rendah. Namun, penggunaan pasir vulkanik sebagai penguat dalam bahan alternatif masih jarang di Indonesia, dimana pemanfaatannya belum sepenuhnya optimal. Penelitian ini menyelidiki material komposit High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) yang diperkuat dengan pasir vulkanik, dengan mengkaji berbagai fraksi berat. Rasio antara pasir vulkanik dan High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) berkisar dari 8% : 92%, 10% : 90%, 12% : 88%, 14% : 86%, hingga 16% : 84%. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai kekuatan mekanik dari material komposit High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) yang diperkuat dengan partikel pasir vulkanik berukuran 6-10 mesh. Campuran komposit diaduk dengan pasir vulkanik pada kecepatan 15 rpm selama 20 menit sifat mekanik dievaluasi melalui uji tarik dan uji impak. Analisis data penelitian mengungkap bahwa komposit dengan penguatan pasir vulkanik sebesar 10% menunjukkan nilai tegangan tarik sebesar 15,61 MPa, sementara variasi 16% menunjukkan nilai tegangan tarik terendah sebesar 7,81 MPa sebaliknya, uji impak mencatat nilai energi yang diserap tertinggi dengan variasi 8% sebesar 19,09 Joule, sedangkan nilai terendah diamati pada variasi 10% sebesar 0,88 Joule. Kata Kunci : material komposit, high density polyethylene, pasir vulkanik, kekuatan mekanis.
