Abstract

Dengan meningkatnya kebutuhan material saat ini yang membutuhkan sifat ringan tapi kuat dan dapat didaur ulang serta ramah lingkungan. Dengan ini banyak dikembangkan salah satunya yaitu komposit. Agar memperoleh material yang ramah lingkungan dan bisa diperbarui, dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan serat alam salah satunya yaitu serat alam rami. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui potensi kekuatan material komposit serat rami. Metode penelitian ini dengan melakukan alkalisasi NaOH terhadap serat rami kemudian dicampur dengan matriks resin epoxy, kemudian dicetak pada cetakan. Pada penelitian ini terdapat pengujian tarik, impact dan SEM pada material terbaik dan terburuk. Pengujian dilakukan dengan variasi perendaman : 2 Jam, 4 jam dan 6 jam variasi fraksi volume serat: 6%, 8%, dan 10 %. Nilai tertinggi pada pengujiaan tarik terjadi pada variasi 2 jam dengan dengan nilai tegangan rata-rata tertinggi pada volume serat 8 % yaitu 68,85 Mpa, begitu juga dengan pengujian impact mendapatkan nilai tertinggi pada variasi 2 jam dan volume serat 8% memiliki nilai rata-rata energi yang diserap tertinggi yaitu 5,446 Joule. Hal ini disinyalir terjadi karena hanya sedikit void dan serat menyebar secara merata. selain itu pada bagian interface terlihat matriks dengan serat terikat cukup baik, hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan cara melakukan pengujian SEM.
