Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between subjective well-being and social skills with celebrity worship in EXO fans on Instagram. The population in this study is 361 fans who are members of the whatsapp group. The participants of this study used accidental sampling technique so that 234 respondents were obtained. The research instrument used is a Likert scale. The data analysis method used in this study is multiple regression analysis with the help of the IBM SPSS version 20 for windows program. In this study, the measuring instruments used are the subjective well-being scale based on aspects proposed by Diener (1984), the social skills scale based on aspects according to Wu (2008), and the celebrity worship scale based on aspects from Maltby, et al (2004). The results of the first hypothesis test with simultaneous test showed a significance value of 0.001 (p<0.05), meaning that subjective well-being and social skills together influence the occurrence of celebrity worship. The R Square score is 0.063%, meaning that subjective well-being and social skills simultaneously together have an effect of 6.3% on celebrity worship. Meanwhile, 93.7% is influenced by other variables. The results of the second hypothesis test with partial test show a significance value of 0.866 (p>0.05), meaning that there is no relationship between subjective well-being and celebrity worship. The results of the third hypothesis test with partial test show a significance value of 0.001 (p <0.05), meaning that there is a relationship between social skills and celebrity worship.
