Abstract

This research discusses Radar Surabaya journalists' perceptions of journalistic code of ethics violations during interviews. Journalists are expected to respect the privacy rights of sources and maintain professionalism in carrying out journalistic duties. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. Data collection methods include interview, observation, and documentation to Radar Surabaya journalists. The results show that adherence to the journalistic code of ethics and professionalism are very important in the work of journalists. Radar Surabaya journalists emphasise the importance of independence in carrying out journalistic duties. They consider independence as the key to maintaining objectivity and truthful information without any external pressure. In addition, maintaining morality, integrity, and refusing bribes are also the main focus in carrying out journalistic duties. Radar Surabaya journalists are committed to complying with the code of ethics, maintaining information accuracy, independence, and professionalism as the main foundation in maintaining the integrity and credibility of mass media. Journalistic Code of Ethics is considered important in maintaining integrity and public trust in the media. Violating the journalistic code of ethics can negatively affect the reputation of journalists and mass media and reduce public trust. Although only a small proportion of journalists have studied the journalistic code of ethics, this study emphasises the importance of improving understanding and adherence to the code in order to maintain better quality journalism.
