Abstract

Media convergence is a phenomenon that involves information and communication technology, computer networks, and media content. This is a direct consequence of the digitalization of media content and the popularization of networks. Media convergence is not just a shift in technology, but changes the relationship between existing technologies, both in terms of industry, market, genre and audience. Convergence refers to a process, which means it does not lead to an end point. Thanks to new telecommunication we can use all kinds of media and communicate with each other. Media convergence is the main focus which is the way radio can survive in the digital era. One of the targets of several radio stations is young people, one of which is youth radio in Surabaya. Young people or what is usually called the millennial generation are one of the target markets for youth radio in Surabaya. Because many youth radio stations in Surabaya have switched to using online radio or internet radio as a means that is easily accessible to listeners from the millennial generation aged 17-37 years. In this research, researchers are interested in finding out how conventional radio can implement a convergence strategy. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques, observation and interviews. The results in this research show the convergence strategy carried out by DJ FM radio by using content visualization in the form of images and design to strengthen targets.
