Abstract

Coconut shell waste is a type of organic waste that is not easily decomposed by microorganisms because it contains lignin. Coconut shell waste also contains potassium around 68.5% and calcium around 15.9% which has the potential to improve performance in absorption and binding to mortar. Apart from that, coconut shell waste in Indonesia is used as briquettes, but coconut shell waste is still not widely used. It is hoped that the use of coconut shell waste can reduce the amount of waste in the environment. The aim of this research is to analyze the effect of coconut shell ash that has been processed by passing sieve no. %, 7.5% and 10% of cement weight. As well as to analyze what percentage variations are optimal to use in making mortar. The test results showed that the highest setting time test value was obtained at a percentage of 2.5% at 58.9 minutes and as the percentage of coconut shell ash in the paste mixture increases, the setting time will decrease. Based on the results of the average compressive strength, the optimal value obtained for mortar with a 10% coconut shell ash mixture was 27,632 Mpa at 7 days, 31,392 Mpa at 14 days, 34,989 Mpa at 28 days. The highest mortar absorption occurred in a mixture of 10% coconut shell ash at 9.307%.
