Abstract
Dengan meningkatnya kebutuhan material saat ini yang membutuhkan sifat ringan tapi kuat dan dapat didaur ulang serta ramah lingkungan. Oleh karena itu, banyak dikembangkan jenis material baru salah satunya yaitu komposit. Agar memperoleh material yang ramah lingkungan dan bisa diperbarui, dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan serat alam salah satunya yaitu serat alam sisal. Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini untuk mengetahui potensi kekuatan material komposit serat sisal. Metode penelitian ini melakukan variasi waktu alkalisasi serat sisal yaitu 30 , 90, 150, 210, dan 270 menit menggunakan konsentrasi NaOH 5 persen. Variasi susunan serat yaitu continous randomly dan discontinous randomly yang kemudian dicampur dengan matriks resin epoxy, kemudian dicetak pada cetakan silikon dimana pembuatan spesimen metode yang digunakan yaitu metode hand lay up. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan pengujian yaitu uji tarik. Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa dengan perlakuan alkalisasi selama 30 menit dengan susunan serat continous randomly memiliki nilai tegangan tarik tertinggi sebesar 94,08 MPa. Sedangkan nilai paling rendah tegangan tarik didapatkan pada perlakuan alkalisasi selama 210 menit dengan susunan serat discontinous randomly sebesar 41,26 MPa.
