Abstract
Serabut kelapa (cocofiber) merupakan slah satu serat alam yang sangat melimpah di indonesia Menurut Organisasi Pangan dan Pertanian (FAO), Indonesia juga menempati urutan pertama sebagai negara produsen kelapa terbesar di dunia dengan rata-rata produksi 18,04 juta ton kelapa.karena jumlahnya yang melimpah serat kelapa banyak digunakan dalam industry komposit untuk mengantikan serat fiber yang tentunya tidak ramah lingkungan.selain itu serat kelapa mempunyai sifat mekanik yang baik. Komposit merupakan gabungan antara dua material yang berbeda dan membentuk material yang lebih baik dari unsur pembentuknya. Komposit terbagi menjadi dua bagian yaitu matriks sebagai pengikat dan serat sebagai penguat. Material komposit seringkali dipilih dalam berbagai industri seperti penerbangan, otomotif, dan konstruksi karena memiliki kekuatan yang tinggi, kekakuan, berat yang ringan, dan daya tahan terhadap korosi. Polyester adalah resin cair dengan viskositas yang relatif rendah, mengeras pada suhu kamar dengan penggunaan katalis dan harganya relatif lebih terjangkau dari pada epoxy. Pada penelitian ini metode yang digunakan untuk pembuatan komposit adalah hand lay-up karena dinilai paling terjangkau dan pengapliksianya yang mudah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis kekuatan Tarik dan impact dengan variabel fraksi volume serabut kelapa pada 20%, 30%, 40%, dengan alkalisasi mengunakan cairan NaOH 15% dan lama rendaman 20 menit, 30 menit, 60 menit . Kemudian dilakukan pengujian Tarik dan impact mengunakan standar ASTM. Pada penelitian ini mendapatkan hasil, tegangan Tarik pada variasi serat 6% dan waktu alkalisasi selama 30 menit diperoleh nilai rata-rata 33,28 Mpa , sedangkan nilai tegangan Tarik pada variasi 10% serat dan waktu alkallisasi 60 menit hanya diperoleh nilai rata-rata 23.68 Mpa . Pada pengujian impak energi yang diserap pada specimen dengan variasi 10% serat dan waktu alkalisasi 60 menit dengan nilai rata-rata 1.192 Joule sedangkan specimen pada variasi 8% serat dan waktu alkalisasi 45 menit.memiliki nilai rata-rata energi hanya 0.527 Joule.
