Abstract

PT Jasa Marga Tol Road Operator is a company operating toll roads in Indonesia, particularly in the Jasa Marga section. Toll roads play a key role in modern transportation by reducing traffic congestion and increasing public productivity. Waru Ramp toll gate, one of the toll gates in Surabaya, experiences downtime issues with the e-toll card reader machine at Gate 7. Maintenance of these reader machines is reactive, often resulting in delays in repairs due to a shortage of available technicians. This research aims to identify factors causing reader machine failures, evaluate their impact on traffic, and develop effective maintenance management strategies. The study aims to identify effective strategies to improve the reliability of reader machines at Gate 7 Waru Ramp Toll Gate with the goal of shortening queues and improving traffic flow. Through field studies and data analysis, risk evaluations of reader machine failures and their impacts on toll road operations were conducted. The research findings indicate that reader machine failures are caused by various factors such as sumpin, PSU, or cable damage, and their impacts on machine performance. To address this, several maintenance management strategies were developed, including scheduled preventive maintenance, development of water-resistant machine covers, and increasing the number of technicians. This research investigates maintenance scheduling strategies for reader machines to avoid breakdowns that can cause traffic congestion on roads. With average cable and connector component reliabilities of 37.16% and 39.34% respectively, scheduling is expedited considering a minimum reliability level of 50%. As a result, scheduling for cable and connector components is performed every 3 days (72 hours) with reliabilities of 55.21% and 57.14% respectively. Although the reliability of sumpin components is still below 50% (average 37.18%), replacement is scheduled every 1 month (720 hours) with a reliability of 44.84%. Major causes of damage include rats chewing cables, water ingress, and dust accumulation. To prevent such damage, it is recommended to install covers on the machines to protect them from rats, water, and dust. These preventive measures are expected to improve reader machine reliability and reduce the risk of breakdowns that disrupt traffic flow.
