Abstract

Dalam proses pembubutan, kekasaran permukaan merupakan salah satu sifat yang penting karena menentukan dapat tidaknya elemen-elemen mesin yang berfungsi dengan baik. Beberapa parameter pemesinan yang mempengaruhi kualitas kekasaran permukaan adalah sudut potong utama dan gerak makan benda kerja atau feeding. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh putaran spindle pembubutan metode dry cutting dan wet cutting terhadap umur pahat karbida dan kekasaran permukaan baja ST 60, sehingga didapatkan putaran spindle, dan metode pembubutan dry cutting dan wet cutting yang tepat untuk mendapatkan kekasaran permukaan yang baik dan meminimalisir terjadinya keausan pahat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen pengolahan data kekasaran permukaan dan keausan pahat dengan variasi kecepatan spindle 500, 760, 1200 Rpm dan variasi jenis pendinginan kedalaman pemotongan tetap 1,5mm dilakukan 3 kali pemakanan. digunakan Baja ST 60 berjumlah 27 spesimen. Pengukuran kekasaran permukaan dilakukan di Lab Pengujian Material Politeknik Perkapalan Negeri Surabaya menggunakan Surfest Roughness Tester didapatkan data (Ra). Dan pengujian keausan pahat dilakukan di Lab Pengujian Material Politeknik Negeri Malang menggunakan foto makro didapatkan Panjang keausan (VB). Berdasarkan hasil pengujian, didapatkan nilai kekasaran permukaan (Ra) terendah pada pembubutan Baja ST 60 pada putaran spindle 1200 Rpm menggunakan jenis pendingin cairan synthetic dengan nilai kekasaran rata – rata 1,744 µm, .Umur pahat terpanjang didapatkan pada putaran spindle 760 Rpm pembubutan menggunakan jenis pendingin cairan synthetic dengan umur pahat 0,864 menit. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa semakin cepat putaran spindle maka akan semakin halus permukaan benda kerja, namun semakin cepat putaran spindle pahat yang digunakan akan semakin cepat aus sehingga mempersingkat umur pahat.
