Abstract
Bolts and nuts at this time are mostly made of carbon steel which has a density of 7.8 kg / m3. When compared with the composite material density which is only 2.4 kg / m3. One of the use of bolts and nuts on the motor postep buffer acts as a postep buffer that is exposed to the surrounding air so that the bolts and nuts are easily corroded. Corrosion can also result from hot working or hot working processes. This study aims to determine the value of the corrosion rate with variations in workpiece temperature and thickness reduction. The materials used are aluminum alloy, pure aluminum, magnesium, Al2O3 powder, HNO3 solution, and coal bottom ash powder (bottom ush), then plating plating. Subsequently casted by the stir casting method, then homogenized and pressed with variations in temperature 125 ℃, 135 ℃, 145 ℃ and a reduction in cross section of 5%, 10%, 15%. Then it was tested for polarization corrosion and microstructure of XRD. From the polarization corrosion test the higher the workpiece temperature, the lower the corrosion rate is due to the higher temperature, the fine grains on uniform material. whereas the higher the percentage of thickness reduction, the higher the corrosion rate due to the increased corrosion current density with increasing thickness reduction. And from the XRD test obtained AlOH2 (Aluminum Oxide Hydroxide) corrosion products.
