Abstract

Arduino is an open source microcontroller. This smart device can be developed in such a way with various sensors and actuators. One example of the development carried out by the author is making Arduino-based cooking oil temperature control using the PID control method. This research investigates the use of a PID (Proportional- Integral-Derivative) controller to regulate temperature in an arduino Uno control system and a MAX6675 Thermocouple module. Thermocouple type K has a range of measurement values (-200ºC) to 1250ºC, made of Nickel Chromium as a positive conductor metal and Nickel-Aluminum as a negative conductor metal. The PID control method is used to optimize system response to temperature changes and minimize control error. In this research, Thermocouple Type K is integrated with MAX6675 module for temperature reading as input. The MAX6675 module uses IC6675 which is intended as an OP-AMP and converts analog signals into digital signals (ADC Converter). The data sent from MAX6675 is digital data. Data sent to the Arduino microcontroller will be processed using the PID method. The data received will then be processed using the PID system to further provide a response to the servo motor used as an actuator. In the implementation of the tool, the servo motor is used as a flame conditioner for the size of the fire on the stove. If the temperature difference between SetValue and PointValue is very large, the servo motor will turn the stove knob to provide a large gas supply, if the PointValue value is close to SetValue, the servo will reduce the gas supply and the PID system will stabilize the temperature. The SetValue can be changed according to the needs of use, using a 4x4 matrix keypad interface. This tool helps humans in doing cooking activities, reducing the use of excess gas, and reducing the evaporation of oil that is wasted due to too high a temperature or overshoot.
