Abstract

This research aims to see the Coming Out Resistance and Social Exchange process in Gay Groups in Kampung Panjang Jiwo Surabaya. Researchers used a descriptive qualitative approach using Edmund Husserl's phenomenological method. The phenomenological analysis technique and data collection methods in this research were carried out using in-depth interviews, observations related to four subjects, namely gay groups carrying out Coming Out Resistance and the Social Exchange process, as well as documentation in the form of photos and personal data of informants that had been disguised. This research uses Social Exchange theory. Practically, this research can be useful as a reference for other researchers who are interested in researching related topics and can also provide knowledge to the public to be more open-minded. Researchers found the opinions of residents of Kampung Panjang Jiwo that some of them could not accept the life of gay groups, while local residents had a very important role for gay groups in establishing themselves. In this study, researchers analyzed 4 Gay Group Informants, namely RF, UN, YH, and Keisya who had carried out the Coming Out Resistance and Social Exchange Process in Kampung Panjang Jiwo, Surabaya. In the first subject, RF came out because he had received unpleasant treatment (bullying) and RF began to admit that he was gay since high school. The second subject UN, did Coming Out because it was already known by the local community and received a positive response. The third subject YH, has not yet come out to the local community and family, but YH has only come out to his friends and those closest to him. The fourth subject Keisya, has felt that she likes people of the same sex since elementary school, but Keisya only confirmed her preferred sexual orientation in middle school.
