Abstract

The increasing population growth at an average rate of 1.25% per year has significant implications, particularly regarding space requirements. High-rise building construction has become an effective solution to address limited space needs. When designing or constructing high-rise buildings, numerous factors need consideration, such as safety aspects. Eccentrically braced frames are designed to distribute lateral forces in structures, thereby minimizing structural failure due to excessive displacements or movements. This research compares the performance of eccentrically braced steel structures of Split K-Braced and V-Braced types to determine the most efficient bracing system in resisting loads, especially seismic loads, using ETABS software. The study focuses on a 10-story hotel in Pasuruan, East Jawa. The natural period values for V-Braced are higher than Split K-Braced, with values of 1.686 seconds in the X direction and 1.757 seconds in the Y direction. The maximum displacements are 309.338 mm in the X direction for Split K-Braced and 336.391 mm in the Y direction for V-Braced. The largest displacements occur in V-Braced, with a difference of 10.57% in the X direction and 15.62% in the Y direction compared to Split K-Braced. The maximum base shear values are higher in V-Braced, measuring 7042.46 kN in the X direction and 8406.1431 kN in the Y direction. Based on the maximum drift values for both bracing types, the building achieves a performance level of 0.5% <∆< 1.5%, indicating a Life Safety level.
