Abstract

This research aims to determine whether the business environment (X1) and entrepreneurial characteristics (X2) influence the performance (Y) of micro and small businesses in the Kodam Brawijaya Market, Surabaya. A newly established Micro and Small Enterprise (MSE) may encounter difficulties in facing competitive challenges, thus requiring anticipation of various possibilities to maintain its business performance. This study employs a quantitative approach, with the sample consisting of business operators in the Kodam Brawijaya Market, Surabaya, totaling 287 respondents. Probability sampling technique, specifically simple random sampling, is utilized, providing equal chances for respondents to be selected as samples. Data is collected through questionnaires, and data analysis techniques include Multiple Linear Regression Test, t-test, F-test, and Coefficient of Determination. The results indicate that both the Business Environment and Entrepreneurial Characteristics collectively influence Business Performance. Additionally, each variable individually influences Business Performance, with entrepreneurial characteristics exhibiting a significant impact. Therefore, entrepreneurs should focus on aspects such as customer growth, diversifying product offerings, and motivating employees to achieve business goals collectively. By doing so, entrepreneurs can effectively navigate business competition and sustain their enterprises under any circumstances.
