Abstract

Road damage can be caused by poor planning, improper selection of materials, implementation quality that does not meet standards, and environmental conditions. This research was conducted on Mayjen Bambang Yuwono Road, Sidoarjo, East Java, which connects Sidoarjo Regency and Mojokerto Regency, which has a 10 km long road, with 4/2D and 4/2UD. The road width at KM 33+900 - KM 35+400 is 6 m with 80 cm median, and the road width at KM 35+400 - 43+900 is 6.5 m without median. Road damage research uses the Surface Distress Index (SDI) method. In applying SDI, the road section is broken down into certain segments. According to the 2011 Ministry of Public Works guidelines, road condition assessment is done by summing up the values of various pavement damages, such as the total area of cracks, the average width of cracks, the number of potholes, and the depth of ruts. The higher the total cumulative damage, the worse the road condition, indicating the need for more intensive maintenance. Visual observation in the field found that 36.67% of the road defects were broad cracks and wide cracks, 26.3% were potholes, and 0.35% were ruts. The majority of road segments were in good condition (72%), with little or no significant damage. The corrective action taken is routine maintenance. However, there are some segments in moderate condition (24%), which may require more attention in terms of intensive care and maintenance, and there are segments in lightly damaged condition (4%), which require comprehensive road rehabilitation.
