Abstract

There are several slang dialogues used by students of University 17 August 1945 Surabaya. The use of one slang dialogue with another slang dialogue reflects different behaviors. If the words are used by fellow teenagers, there may not be disagreements in communication, but they will become familiar. However, when the language is used with lecturers or staff on campus, or even with parents, the use of slang will lead to negative behavior of students, because students are considered to have no manners and impressions in language. The purpose of this research was to find out the influence of dialogue using slang on the behavior of university students on August 17, 1945 Surabaya. The research sample consisted of 311 students of University of August 17, 1945 Surabaya Communication Science Study Program. Data analysis is done with simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that dialogue using slang had a significant effect on the behavior of university students on August 17, 1945 Surabaya. Evidenced by obtaining tcount value = 9,664 > ttable = 0,2039 with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05.
