Abstract
ST 41 steel is a type of carbon steel which has a low carbon content (Low Carbon Steel), namely below 0.30%. In this research, the welding used is GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding). GMAW welding is welding of similar metals by utilizing additional materials in the form of spun wire and protective gas. This research uses variations in welding current, namely 85 A, 105 A, 125 A. The aim of this research is to find out how variations in cooling media and welding current affect hardness and maximum tensile value after heat treatment. Tensile test results with varying currents of 85 A, 105 A, and 125 A with the same welding speed in variations of Air, Water and Oil cooling. The greatest maximum strength in the air cooling medium at a current of 105 A with specimen code D2 has a maximum tensile strength of 36.71 kg/mm2. The greatest maximum strength in the water cooling medium is at a current of 85 A with specimen code B1 with a maximum tensile strength of 38.11 kg/mm2. And the greatest maximum strength in the oil cooling media at a current of 125 A with specimen code I2, maximum tensile strength of 37.50 kg/mm2. The effect of variations in current and cooling media on the ST 41 steel material can be seen that the highest hardness value is found in the WELD METAL area with a current of 125 A with specimen code I, in an oil cooling medium of 75.3 HRB. Meanwhile, in the METAL HAZ area, the highest current was 105 A with specimen code F in the oil cooling medium at 76.16 HRB. And in the BASE METAL area the highest value is at a current of 105 A with F in the oil cooling medium of 73.3 HRB. The high value of this number shows that the oil cooling media has the highest hardness value compared to air and water cooling media. So the highest hardness value of all cooling treatments with a strong current is the highest in the oil cooling medium with a current of 105 A with a hardness number of 76.16 HRB in the METAL HAZ area.
