Abstract

Media political economy is narrowly a study of social relations, especially those related to power in the fields of production, distribution and consumption of resources in communication. In the context of communication, the main resources are the communication products themselves. In this research, the method used is a type of critical political economy research with a qualitative approach. The theory used in this research is the theory of Vincent Mosco's media political economy which emphasizes one of its concepts, namely commodification which is divided into content commodification, audience commodification, and worker commodification. For data collection techniques using in-depth interview methods, documentation, and observation. The result of this research is that the practice of media political economy carried out by Bangsaonline.com includes three categories of the concept of commodification, namely content commodification which can be seen from the news modification process, audience commodification which is used to gain profit, and commodification of workers who are required to carry out more than one task. In addition, there are also power relations in Bangsaonline.com media which explain the existence of a cooperative relationship with a government agency.
