Abstract

Diskriminasi gender merujuk pada perlakuan tidak adil atau diskriminatif yang didasarkan pada jenis kelamin seseorang. Ketidakadilan ini ditunjukan adanya perbedaan perlakuan masyarakat terhadap salah satu gender. Seperti stereotipe masyarakat kepada laki-laki yang menuntut sebagai gender yang kuat, tegas, dan agresif. Perbedaan dari konstruksi mayarakat terhadap pandangan ini menyebabkan fenomena toxic masculinity. Istilah Toxic masculinity merupakan sebuah konsep yang mengacu pada norma-norma budaya dan perilaku yang terkait dengan stereotipe maskulinitas tradisional sehinga memiliki dampak buruk pada seorang laki-laki. Dari permasalahan fenomena maskulinitas beracun tersebut masyarakat membuat konstruksi sosial pada laki-laki yang mengakitbatkan tekanan pada setiap individu. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan analisis resepsi Stuart Hall, dimana penelitian ini mengarah pada resepsi mahasiswa ilmu komunikasi Untag Surabaya yang telah mengambil mata kuliah komunikasi gender terhadap penolakan maskulinitas beracun yang ditampilakan melalui foto Jefri Nichol di Instagram pribadinya serta menggunakan pendekatan konstruktivis. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pemaknaan dan sudut pandang yang beragam dari mahasiswa ilmu komunikasi mengenai fenomena toxic masculinity di unggahan Instagram Jefri Nichol yang menggunakan long dress. Hasil penelitian ini ditemukan sebanyak enam informan yang menepati posisi dominan, yang mana informan tersebut memiliki resepsi jika busana feminin yang digunakan Jefri bentuk dari mengekspresikan diri melalui pakaian dan artibut yang dianggap feminin. Sedangkan dua informan lainnya menepati posisi negosiasi dan posisi oposisi yang mana memiliki persepsi busana yang digunakan Jefri tidak sesuai dengan budaya yang telah di terapkan
