Abstract

The paradigm transition of forest management from state based forest management to community based forest management (CBFM) give color to the issue settlement effort of Indonesian global environment. From the research based on education for sustainable development which applies research and development on the management of forest resource with society (PHBM) in Ngawi Regency, the results can be show as follow: (a) There are more than 12.000ha (30% of the land area) owned by forest caretaker unity (kesatuan pemangku hutan KPH) Perum Perhutani Ngawi, which is potential to become the area for shelter endurable plant cultivation (Porang), (b) generally (more than 80%) forest farmers have known Porang plant type, however there are still few of them (< 30%) in the cultivation experience, (c) almost all (90%) of forest farmers have willingness in Porang cultivation entrepreneurship and have big chance to reveal it because there is guarantee from (i) Government cq Perum Perhutani in making use of the sustainable area utility, (ii) Regency Government cq Forestry and Plantation Department Dinas Kehutanan dan Perkebunan and Provincial Government cq East Java Bapemas in the facility of forest villager organization (LMDH), (iii) stakeholders in the fund, seeds, and fertilizer supply, (iv) more than 60% of forest farmers have willingness to cooperate with other department to endeavor the additional value of the shelter endurable plant and to market it, and (v) more than 50% of them declare to be capable in cooperating with other departments to make Ngawi city to be Industrial centre of shelter endurable plant and (d) forest farmers generally are ready to develop knowledge and continue other activities based on ESD, also to spread to others included to their heredities.
