Abstract

With increasing life expectancy in Indonesia, the elderly population is also increasing rapidly so that it will experience an increasing aging population in 2030 (Ministry of Health RI, 2013). The need for long-term therapy facilities such as nursing homes will be needed. However, not all nursing homes in Indonesia are equipped with dementia therapy facilities, most of which are exclusive or intended for the upper middle class. This condition makes it difficult for low-income and neglected dementia patients. Neglected elderly have great potential related to problems that will occur in old age such as health and economic problems that can become obstacles to development in a city. Environmental modification is one way in designing to solve related problems. By modifying the environment to be more directed to create a special area, the impression concept is taken by adjusting the user's behavior. Impression is a person's way of feeling something. From the results of the formulation of the concept, in order for this design to have basic principles, a behavioral approach was used to produce a planning criteria for a nursing home with dementia therapy facilities. It can be concluded that planning a nursing home with a behavioral approach is able to create designs according to circulation, spatial patterns, facilities, buildings, and materials that take into account the psychology and needs of elderly people with dementia by utilizing environmental conditions to make them more supportive.
