Abstract

The use of smartphones is now increasing rapidly, where people make smartphones their main need to help with daily activities with various social media applications that can provide information for work activities or assignments. People who use social media not only to help with activities, but to see the activities of other people who are considered more valuable than their experiences, causing anxiety for themselves which is called Fear of missing out. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between social media addiction and self-regulation with Fear of missing out. This study uses quantitative research methods with data collection in the form of a psychological scale. The subjects of this study amounted to 131 respondents who live in East Java with an age range of 18-40 years. The analytical method uses multiple regression analysis assisted by SPSS version 20 for windows. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the correlation between social media addiction and fear of missing out was 2105 and a significance of 0,037. A significance value of 0,000 <0,05 means that the hypothesis of the relationship between social media addiction and fear of missing out is accepted. This means that social media addiction has a positive relationship with fear of missing out. While the correlation score of self�regulation with fear of missing out is -2,718 and a significance of 0,007. Significance value 0,019 <0,05 The hypothesis of the relationship between self-regulation and fear of missing out is accepted. This means that there is a negative relationship between self-regulation and fear of missing out. The correlation of multiple linear regression analysis with the value of fear of missing out shows an F count of 4,488 and a significance of 0,013. The results of this analysis show that the significance of 0,013<0,05 so it can be concluded that the hypothesis of the relationship between social media addiction and self-regulation with fear of missing out is accepted. This means that social media addiction and self-regulation variables have a relationship with fear of missing out.
