Abstract

Dilemma is a difficult situation in which someone has to choose one of the choices in life. This thesis reports Jennifer’s dilemma in Erin Kaye Second Time Around. The problems to be investigated are the sequence of the event related to Jennifer’s dilemma, Jennifer’s dilemma and Jennifer faces the dilemma. In writing this thesis, the writer uses qualitative research due to the fact that the data are reported in words than in numbers. This thesis also applies the intrinsic approach in analyzing the novel, the intrinsic means that the discussion of this study relates with character and plot. The result shows that Jennifer’s dilemma starts when Lucy protest Jennifer’s relationship with Ben, then Jennifer investigates Oren’s background and finally Jennifer gets information that Oren is a troublemaker. Jennifer’s dilemma in this case, she must choose between her desire to get married with Ben and to let her daughter having relationship with Oren. Jennifer solves the dilemma by consulting with her best friend, Donna. Then she can wisely decide to break off her relationship with Ben. Based on the explanation above the writer finds that dilemma make life complicated, we should fight it so we can overcome our dilemma in which the result will make our life better.
