Abstract

With the advancement of the industrial world, the use of motors as prime movers is becoming increasingly important along with diverse needs. In the AC PNR test, a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) is used as the power supply. However, the use of VFDs also faces several problems, such as trips due to overcurrent and energy waste. For this reason, VFD testing was carried out using open-loop (without PID control) and close-loop (with PID control) methods using the Simulink MATLAB program to measure efficiency. The results showed that in the open-loop test with an input frequency of 60Hz, the power of the three-phase induction motor was 683.4 kW with an output frequency of 14.93 Hz. While in the close-loop test, the power obtained was 5,181 kW with an output frequency of 58.63Hz. The efficiency comparison between the open-loop VFD and close-loop VFD models with PID control is about 7.56% and 64.36%, respectively. This shows that the use of PID control in the close-loop VFD model allows the system to be more efficient in producing the required output power, when compared to the open loop VFD model that does not use feedback or PID control.
