Abstract

ST-42 steel and ST-60 steel are two types of steel that are usually used in building structures, whether in the form of buildings, facilities, or other structures. The purpose of this study was to determine normalizing heat therapy using a temperature of 880 °C and different durations of heat retention, namely 5 minutes, 15 minutes and 35 minutes. In the ST-42 tensile test of the three time variations, the lowest value was obtained at the 15 minute heat retention time with a value of 35.49 Kg/mm2 while the highest value was at the 5 minute heat retention time with a value of 65.76 Kg/mm2. In the ST-60 tensile test of the three time variations, the lowest value was obtained at the heat holding time of 35 minutes with a value of 61.5 Kg/mm2 while the highest value was at the heat holding time of 5 minutes with a value of 100.49 Kg/mm2. In the rockwell hardness test ST-42 steel without heat treatment has the highest hardness value of the three variations of heat holding time with a value of 50 HRC. In the ST-60 steel of the three time variations, the lowest value was obtained at the heat holding time of 15 minutes with a value of 42.3 HRC, while for the highest value at the heat holding time of 5 minutes and 35 minutes with a value of 44.5 HRC.
