Abstract

An investment is an activity that allocates a number of funds with the aim of gaining profits in the future. The number of individual investors has experienced a fairly rapid increase despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic that is dominated by the age group <30 years with the number of assets continuing to increase. Students are one of the individual investors who belong to the age group <30 years. An investment decision is an action taken by a person to withdraw funds in the present time with the hope in the future to obtain greater returns. In making investment decisions students are influenced by several factors, such as investment knowledge, investment motivation, locus of control, and risk tolerance. This research aims to find out whether there is an influence of investment knowledge, investment motivation, locus of control, as well as risk tolerance on investment decisions of students of Business Administration University 17 August 1945 Surabaya. This research uses quantitative research methods. The sample used in this study consisted of 109 students of Business Administration University 17 August 1945 Surabaya. Sampling techniques in this study use probability sampling technique with simple random sampler technique. Research findings show that investment knowledge, locus of control, and risk tolerance have a significant influence on investment decisions. Partly, investment motivation has no significant influence on investment decisions. Then investment knowledge, investment motivation, locus of control, as well as risk tolerance simultaneously have a significant influence on investment decisions. Therefore, it is best for students of Business Administration University 17 August 1945 Surabaya to add knowledge and skills in the field of investment, and it is also better to always be careful before deciding to invest.
