Abstract

This research discusses the intercultural communication patterns employed by parents to convey the calculation of "weton" (Javanese traditional pre-wedding astrology) to their children within the family residing in RT 04 RW 07, Gunung Anyar Tambak Village, Surabaya City. The aim of this study is to understand the intercultural communication patterns used by parents to deliver messages to their children regarding the calculation of "weton" before marriage, with the objective of minimizing conflicts within the family. The research method used in this study is qualitative descriptive, as the author only requires information and explanations from the informants regarding the communication process that takes place. The data collection techniques employed by the researcher include observation, interviews, documentation, and data analysis. From the research findings, it can be concluded that the communication pattern utilized by parents to convey messages to their children regarding the calculation of "weton" before marriage is through cognitive persuasive communication. Parents make efforts to influence their children to align with their desires by providing understanding and comprehension of the calculation of "weton" before marriage, without forcing their children to comply with their decisions.
