Abstract

The development of an increasingly innovative industrial field requires a material or material that has a light weight, cheap, and easy to obtain but has good strength to implement innovative advances. The Material in accordance with this progress is to use composite materials. Composite is a new material consisting of two or more separate materials that occur the process of combining in one structural unit that has mechanical properties and characteristics different from the original material. Composites made from natural materials are very abundant, one of which is coconut shell which is relatively easy to find in the community, so this material needs research to optimize its use. This study is an experimental study that aims to determine the strength value of polypropylene composite material with coconut shell powder with particle size 200-250 and 250-300 mesh with a weight fraction of 8.5%, 11.5%, and 14.5% with stirring 30 rpm for 20 minutes with tensile testing, impact, and SEM. The results showed that the particle size 200-250 mesh weight fraction of 11.5% has an average value of the highest tensile stress of 19.80 Mpa and has the highest impact testing value with an average value of absorbed energy of 0.97 Joules. While the lowest average value in tensile testing is obtained on the particle size of 250-300 mesh with a weight fraction of 8.5% of 12.74 Mpa and impact testing on the particle size of 200-250 Mesh with a fraction of 8.5% of 0.42 Joules.
