Abstract
Automatic trash cans use ultrasonic sensors as a tool to automate manual trash bins to make it easier for people to dispose of trash and increase awareness of environmental cleanliness. Automatic trash cans using ultrasonic sensors are controlled via a microcontroller. The ultrasonic sensor detects a person/another object in front of the trash can in less than 3 seconds. The data is processed by the Arduino Uno to move the servo motor to open and close the trash can lid and the speakers sound "thank you for putting the trash in its place." This research uses the Research and Development or RnD method. Based on the research conducted, the performance of the design of an automatic trash can using Arduino with the influence of ultrasonic sensors has worked well, by testing 3 different objects (humans, objects and animals) with an average value when testing the performance of the tool at a distance of 30-60 cm and we apply distances that have a slight difference in the program with distances > 60cm. It is recommended for further research, namely adding a detection sensor if the garbage is full. The second suggestion is to make the trash can bigger.
