Abstract
Korosi adalah penurunan sifat suatu logam akibat reaksi kimia antara paduan logam atau logam dengan lingkungannya. Korosi dapat mengakibatkan kerusakan pada material baja yang menyebabkan baja cepat lelah dan mudah rusak. Baja ST 41 merupakan baja karbon rendah dengan komposisi kimia karbon 0,10% : mangan 0,6% : silikon 0,25%. Baja ST-41 memiliki arti tensile strength atau tegangan tarik dengan 40 kg/mm2. Inhibitor korosi adalah suatu zat kimia yang bila ditambahkan kedalam suatu lingkungan, dapat menurunkan laju penyerangan korosi lingkungan itu terhadap suatu logam. Baja karbon rendah sering digunakan untuk bagian – bagian mesin seperti : gear, rantai, skrup dan poros, dan lain – lain. Secara umum yang dimaksud dengan perlakuan panas atau sering disebut heat treatment adalah memanaskan logam pada suhu tertentu dengan kecepatan pemanasan tertentu, kemudian didiamkan dalam jangka waktu tertentu dan didinginkan kembali dengan perubahan kecepatan pendinginan tertentu dengan media udara atau cair, seperti oli dan air. Diuji dengan menggunkan pengujian weight loss atau pengujian dengan menghitung berat awal material spesimen dengan menghitung berat akhir spesimen. Lalu melakukan pengorosian dengan mengunakan media air garam direndam selama 15 hari setelah proses pengorosian selama 15 hari kemudian menghitung laju korosinya. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan material spesimen Baja ST-41 dengan melakukan perlakuan panas. Proses hardening dengan variasi temperatur dan waktu didapat nilai laju korosi terbaik adalah pada temperatur 975°C dengan holding time 20 menit dengan rata – rata laju korosi 0,1512 mm/y.
