Abstract

The new coronavirus that causes COVID-19 is very vulnerable to infecting people with low immunity. One of the patients at risk of being infected with this virus is a cancer survivor (palliative patient), who certainly has a low immunity or low immune system. Cancer is an autoimmune disease that attacks human cells and causes organ failure to perform its functions. Cancer is a chronic disease and is life�threatening. This is because until now no treatment has been declared successful in curing cancer. Palliative patients think that they are physically weak and vulnerable so that it can lead to death. During a pandemic, palliative patients seem worried or anxious about their illness. This is not only because the number of visits limits access to services or treatment, but also because of the dangerous and deadly nature of the COVID-19 virus. The role of the family in palliative patients and providing a correct understanding of COVID-19 will reduce the anxiety level of palliative patients. The subjects in this study were palliative patients at the East Surabaya Public Health Center with a total of 235 respondents. This type of test uses an achievement test (understanding COVID-19) and a questionnaire (anxiety scale and family support scale). The data analysis technique of this research uses Spearman rank analysis to see the relationship between one variable and other variables. The first hypothesis in this study cannot be proven statistically. The results of the second hypothesis said that the understanding of COVID-19 was negatively correlated with the anxiety level of palliative patients at the East Surabaya, rejected. The third hypothesis result said that family support was negatively correlated with the anxiety level of palliative patients at the east Surabaya, accepted.
