Abstract

The development of the industrial world today causes the need for materials to increase , especially for a product . The use of metal materials in various product components is decreasing due to the weight of components made of metal , the formation process is relatively difficult , can experience corrosion and production costs are expensive , therefore many other materials have been developed that have properties that match the characteristics of the desired metal material .. One of the materials being developed today is composite materials . The first stage of making this composite material is by crushing marine limestone ( coral ) then sieved using a 250-300mesh sieve , then the polypropylene is melted at a temperature of 170 ° C in a heating machine with a percentage of 90 % polopropylene after the polypropylene melts completely , then the stone powder is added with a percentage of 10 % . Then the stirring process was carried out according to the research variables , namely with a stirring speed of 20 and 30 rpm at a speed of 10 , 20 , 30 minutes . Then the printing was carried out with a load of 25kg / cm2 for 5 minutes . After that , the specimen was formed according to the tests carried out , namely tensile tests , bending tests , impact tests and SEM tests . In this study , the highest strength value of polypropylene composite material with marine limestone ( coral ) was obtained at a variable stirring speed of 30 rpm and a stirring time of 10 minutes with a value of 31.50 MPa in tensile testing , this value is greater than the value of tensile strength , pure polypropylene 29,31MPa . In this study , it was also concluded that the faster the stirring , the higher the tensile stress and elastic modulus , and the longer the stirring time , the lower the tensile stress and the elastic modulus . tensile stress value 16.13MPa Keywords : composite , polypropylene , coral limestone , mechanical test , SEM
