Abstract
Instagram is one of the popular social media and is much loved by the public, especially for students. One of the features on Instagram, the multiple account , makes it easy for Instagram users to create a second account on one device. Users can log in two to five accounts at once without logging out first. This is used by some students to have more than one account. If in the first account the accountability is clear by using the account name, profile photo and content that represents their real identity, in the second account it is the other way around. Students intentionally use account names, profile photos and content that does not identify themselves. The purpose of this study is to find out how Communication Studies students on August 17, 1945 interpret the second Instagram account. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach and studied with the Symbolic Interaction Theory by Geroge Herbert Mead regarding 3 main concepts, namely Mind, Self and Society. The technique of collecting is by observation, interview and documentation. Informants in this study were students of Communication Studies, University of 17 August 1945, Surabaya with predetermined characteristics. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the informants tend to interpret the use of a second Instagram account as self-control, interpreting a second account as a safe place, and interpreting a second account as segmenting personal content with professionals.
