Abstract
In the design of this tempe chip cutting machine, the background is that there are still many home industries producing tempeh chips that still use manual cutting tools, so it requires a lot of energy and a long time. To overcome this, so that production results and time efficiency can be reduced and can reduce costs, namely by making a tempeh slicing machine. In the planning process of this machine, the aim is to determine the results of sliced tempe on the number of blades 1 and 2 on the plate and variations in the rotation speed of the machine at 33˚C temperature and 5˚C temperature tempeh. The method used in this study begins with determining the cutting style of the tempeh and then the motor power. Next is the planning of machine elements such as v belts, shafts, pulleys and bearings. From the experimental results obtained from the design of the tempe chips cutting machine, the power on the motor is 1/4 HP with a rotation of 1420 rpm, the diameter of the shaft used is 20 mm made of S45C, the diameter of the pulleys is 4 in, 5 in, 6 in made of aluminum, bearings with a diameter of 20 mm. The experimental results obtained the best results at 591.7 rpm engine speed using 1 cutting knife with 100 slices in 11 seconds with the percentage of the number of decent tempeh slices being 88% (88 decent slices, 12 damaged slices).
