Abstract

The strength of TIG welded joints is influenced by the selection of welding currents and gas discharge in commercial steel materials. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in current strength of 80A, 100A, 120A and gas discharge 14Lt/m, 16Lt/m, 18Lt/m with TIG welding technique. After the welding process, the mechanical properties were tested including tensile test and hardness test. In this study, the author uses a landing aluminum plate material. The test data show that for the tensile test using the ASTM E8/E8M16a standard with the highest tensile stress value obtained in welding using a current of 120A and gas 18Lt/m, which is 4.58 Kgf/mm2 and the lowest tensile stress value is on the current strength. 80A & 14Lt/m gas which is 3.47 Kgf/mm2. The results of the highest hardness test on the welding current of 120A and gas of 18Lt/m are 47.3 HRB. The results of this study indicate that aluminum landings with the TIG welding process with variations in current and gas discharge can increase the strength of the material to be stronger.
