Abstract
Indonesia is a state of law, therefore legal certainty must be given to the community, one of which is through an authentic deed made by a notary who has perfect legal certainty. But in practice is turns out that authentic deeds can be degraded into under handed deeds. So it needs to be further examined the cause of the deed can be degraded and what sanctions received by the notary if the authentic deed is degraded into a deed under the hand so that the legal certainty given by the deed to the parties is guaranteed. The method used in this research is normative law. The collection of legal materials used are inventory and literature study. From the results of this study, the cause of an authentic deed can be degraded because the notary does not meet the provision contained in the law and the notary sanction fot the infured party to claim compensation, interest and fees, but there is not sanction that directly impacts the notary
