Abstract

At present, the technology of making composite materials has developed rapidly. Composite material itself is a material consisting of a mixture of two or more materials that have physical and chemical properties and produce new materials with different properties from the materials they are composed of. Composite materials are divided into two, namely binders (matrix) and reinforcing materials. The binder works to bind and protect the material to work properly. Examples of reinforcing materials used in composite materials are usually soft materials such as magnesium, resins, ceramics, and others. While the reinforcing material works as the main ingredient that determines the characteristics of the material. This research tries to make a new composite material with a reinforcing material in the form of alumimum and a binder in the form of coal bottom ash. Here the composite material that has been made will undergo a hot pressing process with 3 different temperatures and 3 different stresses. After this material, the microstructure will be tested using SEM. The results show that the higher the temperature, the larger the grain size
