Abstract

This research aims to analyze Jade Sperry’s Revenge and to find out the cause and effect of Jade Sperry’s revenge in Sandra Brown’s Breath of Scandal. The researcher applies descriptive qualitative method. The qualitative method is applied because the data of this research are in the form of words, comprising quotations from the novel, and the results of the analysis are written descriptively. The data collection technique used in this research is the reading and writing technique, while the data analysis technique used is the analysis description technique, which is done by describing the facts which are then accompanied by data analysis. This research uses personality Structure Theory by Sigmund Freud to analyze revenge as a form of behavior that cannot be separated from the three personality structures which will portray the main character’s revenge. The results of the analysis that the researcher has found show that the cause of Jade takes revenge is because she has been raped by three of her school friends. The effect of Jade take revenge is, Jade feels satisfied and a lot better. In the Id and Ego of Jade’s personality, they are showing the desire for revenge due to overwhelming emotions because of receiving negative treatment from people around her life. In the ego of Jade's personality, the act of revenge that Jade did was by putting them into bankruptcy, the Id’s desires and commands to take revenge by doing small revenge first. In the superego, there are no good and bad values of life that play a role in the process of revenge that Jade does.
