Abstract

Self-control is a person's ability to control himself, restrain and control his desire to carry out an action, and be able to regulate behavior according to conditions and situations. In addition, they also have a high sensitivity to themselves, others and the surrounding environment. At this time students often do not have the ability to restrain or control themselves, so that everything they want must be fulfilled, this results in consumptive behavior. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between self-control and consumptive behavior in working and non-working students, psychology faculty, University of 17 August 1945, Surabaya. The research design used by the researcher is a quantitative study with 163 students involved in the form of 6th semester to 8th semester students. Analysis of the data in this study using Product Moment correlation with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics 20 and obtained the results of 0.776 with a significance of p = 0.000. That is, there is a correlation or relationship between self-control variables and consumptive behavior in working and non-working students, psychology faculty, University of 17 August 1945, Surabaya.
