Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of temperature variation 150oC, 160oC, 170oC and the reduction of 5%, 10%, 15% cross section of the forging process and before the forging process on aluminium composite (used pistons) coal base ash alloy againts wear rate and microstuctire. For wear test using an Ogoshi High Speed Universal Wear Testing Machine (Type-OAT-U), while the microstructure test uses an optical microscope tool. The result of the wear test can be seen that the temperature variation anda cross section reduction are very influential on wear resistance with the lowest wear rate in specimens with 170oC temperature variations and 15% cross section reduction with test result 0,004 x 10-6 mm3/mm, for the micro structure makes the grain size smaller, namely the average diameter size of lowest grain in the specimen with 170oC temperature variations and 15% cross section reduction with the result of 133,3 μm. The shows that the greater the temperature and the reduction of cross section in the process of forging aluminium alloy coal base ash can improve itts mechanical properties.
