Abstract

This study discusses about Jean-Baptiste Grenouille’s Anti Social Personality Disorder in Patrick Suskind’s Perfume: Story of a Murderer. The objective of writing this thesis is to derived from the writer’s curiosity to find out Grenouille’s ASPD. In this study, there are three problems related to the topic of this thesis: (1) What is the cause of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille as ASPD in Patrick Suskind’s Perfume: Story of a Murderer? (2) What are the symptoms of Jean�Baptiste Grenouille in Patrick Suskind’s Perfume: Story of a Murderer? (3) What is the effect of ASPD for the main character Jean-Baptiste Grenouille? This study use qualitative data research to find and gathering the data. To analyze the problems, the psychological approach is conducted here. This study uses data from the novel itself, while other reference use to support the main data and it taken from some literary criticism and the internet. Based on the analysis, Grenouille’s ASPD is due to his environmental problem. ASPD comes from his rigid neighborhood. He was born without parents and lives in orphanage. He never gets fond from anybody. As the effect of his ASPD, he kills 25 virgin women with no mercy and no guilty. Finally, the writer found there are some factors that make the main character gets his psychological disorder, poverty, rejection of his life from his neighborhood.
