Abstract

Aluminium is one of the metals that is widely used in industry, because it has a lightweight, corrosion resistant and easily formed. But aluminum has low strength and hardness. In order to be durable and not easily damaged, therefore it must improve the properties of hard and strong material T6 heat treatment process must be carried out, so that it can change the mechanical properties of the material. This study aims to analyze the effect of T6 heat treatment with a solution heat treatment (solution heat treatment) 460 ° C, 500 ° C, 540 ° C then the time of holding 1 hour aging and varying the oil quencing media, ordinary water and salt water. The percentage of composite weight is 2.6 kg with 95% aluminum 6061 + 5% iron powder. And the results of this study obtained the highest results of hardness test on specimens with an aging temperature variation of 540 ° C in salt water cooling media after T6 heat treatment process which was equal to 65.8 HRB. The highest Impact test results were obtained on specimens with an aging temperature variation of 460 ° C oil coolant after the T6 heat treatment process with a yield of 0.008 Joule / m². This shows that the high aging temperature and 1 hour aging time on casting 6061 aluminum gravity casting - iron powder can improve its mechanical properties, except for the Impact strength test the results decrease. Because if the temperature is high and the cooling is too fast, then when a shock is applied, the material will break easily (brittle), only a little absorption of the load in the Impact test.
